Postojna cave, Predjama castle and Ljubljana tour itinerary:
The tour starts with a pick up at the client’s accommodation. You can just provide us with an address and we will be there. After crossing the border (be sure to take your passport) and approximately 2h drive you will arrive in Postojna.
The tour of Postojna cave is fully organized by the cave employees. You choose the language of the tour or an audio guide and the next 1,5h you are in the expert hands of the cave guides. First you go on a train ride which lasts approximately 15 minutes. The train rushes through the stunning galleries among the stalactites and stalagmites. Inside the cave you have an hour of a walking tour through the cave getting to know the cave history. The cave was discovered at the beginning of the 19th century and today is the most visited cave in Europe and the only cave that has train tracks inside it. After the walk is done, the train ride out is again 15 min.
Just 10 kilometers away by car is the Predjama castle, our next stop. This castle has stood there for 800 years, perched inside a 123 meters high cliff. If you decide to enter the castle you will see how the builders intertwined the cave itself with the mighty walls of the castle. Below, above and behind the castle is a labyrinth of karst caves. It was almost impossible to enter the cave but the owners knew all the secret passages which made the people think they have magical powers of leaving the cave.
In approximately 40 to 50 min and we will be in the Ljubljana city center. Usually our clients first go for a typical Slovenian lunch and then to explore the city itself. Ljubljana has a small city center which you can easily explore on foot. Interesting thing is also a glass cable car taking you to the Old city of Ljubljana with a lovely view. The Ljubljanica bridges, the closed and open market, the Prešern square, festivals and events on the street and the city buzz will make you want to stay. Just take your coffee and something sweet and act local.
