Predjama castle – the world’s largest cave castle. This magnificent, mysterious, unconquerable castle stands on this cliff for more than 8 centuries. It was built on a cliff, in front of a cave which is an essential part of it. Life inside the castle was hard due to the moist and low temperature. Below and behind the castle there is a labyrinth of caves and pits which served as escape routes for the castle owners. The most famous owner of Predjama castle was rebellious knight Erazem who withstood the imperial army’s siege for over a year and actually fell only because of a servant’s betrayal. Today the castle is a museum you can visit and see the way of life centuries ago. You can also visit the caves under the castle. Every year on the meadow there is the Erazem’s knights tournament with participants from different countries of the world.
