They say that this central Zagreb cemetery is one of the most beautiful cemeteries in Europe. It is actually a beautiful park and we can say an open gallery of art. Some even call it the Croatian Pantheon because it is a final resting place for many famous Croats. It was formed in the 19th century as a central cemetery for all religions in Zagreb. It was decorated in the style of an English park and it was for the 4 religions of Zagreb. Dividing the cemetery by walls between religions was not allowed. The part of the park was divided from the inner part with arcades. In the arcades there were churches for different religions and tombs. The architect that invented this concept was Herman Bolle, the famous Austrian architect. Many people consider it his work of art. Local people are proud of the fact that the cemetery is actually a symbol of tolerance of the people of Zagreb, with religions equally presented in such an important place.
